Chapter 12 - Three Fun Filled Days in Sunny San Diego

Hi again -

We left off visiting family in Arizona and Nevada.

On May 11, we were off to California with the intent to drive the Pacific Coast Highway or Historic Route 101.

We went to San Diego for three days...clearly not enough time for such a great place.  We will definitely return for a longer visit next time.

On May 12, we went to Coronado Island and loved it!

We walked around a corner and saw the most beautiful historic home across from the beach.
The red roof and Queen Anne style were stunning!

Corp made me take the lower right photo because he thought
the payloader in the background was funny!

The Hotel Coronado is in the background.  Beautiful place and space!

We were yelled at when walking on the beach outside of the Hotel Coronado.  Turns out we were entering a part of the beach that is located on a Navy Seals training base.  Maybe they should mark it as a “do not enter” area instead of yelling at people.

Imperial Beach on Coronado Island was another favorite.

Southern California was everything I imagined it would be.
I totally get why people love living there.

Next, we went to the Inez Grant Parker Memorial
Rose Garden, which was definitely a favorite place for me in San Diego.  I took a million pictures of so many different varieties of roses.

We couldn't believe how tame the squirrels were.
You could almost feed them out of your hand.

Funny moment…a meditation author in the park asked Corp "are you a smart man?”.  Corp started laughing and said “nope” pretty quickly.  The author was so surprised by his comment that he couldn’t stop laughing.

My favorite photo from the Rose Garden.

We took a train ride around the park and saw lots of neat sites.

On May 13, we visited LaJolla and Mission Beach.

The lazy seals on the beach were fun to watch even though they were pretty stinky.

LaJolla Beach was stunning with the cliffs, rocks, and buildings.

The wide crevices in the stone were something new to us.

This is probably one of the first places where we have seen miles of mansions on the beach.
Little did we know that we would see mansions along the beach throughout Southern California.

Corp couldn't resist taking a video of all the
exotic car dealerships within two blocks of each other.

We loved LaJolla, but Mission Beach was the bomb...our new favorite place we have visited.  We loved the young vibe, boardwalk for walking and biking, huge beach, lots of bars and restaurants, surfing, and overall beachy feeling of the place.

The Strand.

Biking on the Strand.  Loved the super tall palm trees.

Taking a selfie with the two of us biking is harder than it looks.  LOL

We were surprised there was an amusement park on Mission Beach; Belmont Park.

Of course, we had to ride the Giant Dipper.
I forgot how much your head bobs around when riding wooden rollercoasters.

Giant Dipper rollercoaster ride

We watched sunset with lots of other people at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park with pizza and beer while chilling on the rocks.

Video is a time lapse of a beautiful sunset.
Check out the rude guy who stepped in front of us to take pics.
His wife finally told him to sit down.
It amazes us how people are so oblivious to anyone but themselves sometimes.

On May 14, we left San Diego and headed to Los Angeles.  Along the way, we stopped at Blacks Beach, our first nude beach.

Interesting experience.

The steps to get up and down the cliff to get to Blacks Beach were crazy steep.
We couldn’t believe that surfers were walking up and down the cliff with their surf boards.

The houses in the hills outside of LaJolla were incredible.

Miscellaneous random cute/funny/interesting/weird pics/videos below...

This is quite the fishing outfit...puffy jacket with hood up in San Diego.
Temperature was in the lower 70s with some wind.

Everyone should have 12-foot metal dragon sculpture in their front yard.  LOL

This cactus looks like it's from the Little Shop of Horrors!

Tile jester in Balboa Park.

Corp thought these men's bathrooms were hilarious!

Happy this isn't our car!  Yuck!

Crazy rocks at LaJolla Beach.

We survived the Giant Dipper rollercoaster.
It had been a long time since we rode a wooden rollercoaster.

Sign says it all!

Well, that’s all for this chapter!

Next, we will be in Los Angeles for a week.

And the adventure continues!

Corp & Tammy
